REAL TRADITIONAL MARSEILLE SOAP

The PRODEF Group is committed to defending Marseille soap through its subsidiary Compagnie du Midi and its Marseille-based soap factory Savonnerie du Midi.

The Marseille soap manufacturing procedure

The Marseille soap creation process is traditional and consists of well defined steps. In fact, five key manufacturing stages must be respected, which has made our soap a symbol of authenticity and quality for more than 130 years.

The manufacturing is done in massive cauldrons by a master soap maker, using exclusively pure vegetable oils, without the addition of colourants, artificial flavours or preservatives.

These oils which are meticulously mixed and heated in the cauldron containing caustic soda, undergo a slow transformation to become soap. That is the secret of the composition of Marseille soap.

The collective trademark of the UPSM

Savonnerie du Midi is a founding member of the Union of Marseille Soap Professionals (UPSM). The association was created in 2011 by four historic soap factories from the Marseille area. Its aim is to promote and defend traditional Marseille soap.

The use of the collective trademark implies the respect of the UPSM charter inspected by CERTIPAQ, an independent certifying body.

THE UPSM CHARTER OF REAL MARSEILLE SOAP

In accordance with the specifications, the UPSM has also registered a collective trademark formalised by the following logo:

Our laboratory is dedicated to the research and development of our hygiene and cleaning products. We work everyday to improve the composition of our liquid soaps, detergents, descalers etc.

The Hygiène & Nature teams are experts in cleaning and hygiene product manufacturing techniques such as saponification, a procedure which transforms fatty substances into soap. Hygiène & Nature uses this chemical reaction everyday with potash lye to produce soft or liquid soaps. Our method is hot saponification for our cosmetic soaps and detergents.
